Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in California

I am bringing my daughters and two of their friends to the beach. I am assuming responsibility for the children I am bringing... If they have additional friends (13 yrs old) meet them without their parents being there, am I responsible for those kids as well? Or are their parents exercising their own discretion by leaving them at the beach?

On the surface, you are not responsible for other children who come to a public place to meet up with your kids.....unless you agree with the other parents to be responsible. You are effectively taking responsibility for the additional friends you are carrying in your car as you say. Much depends on how you manage the situation at the beach. For example, if you were to take an active role in managing the activities of ALL the kids, one might argue that you are assuming the responsibility for ALL the kids. There would be an expectation on the part of others, in such cases, that you were watching after the whole group, and so injuries that might happen could be attributed to your own negligence. The best way to avoid this is to remain apart, as the parent, from the others so that responsibility could not be imputed on you for their own irresponsible (or not) acts.
