Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in California
Hi,
My child get caught for shoplifting the first time in Costa mesa, Ca at MAcy store in south coast plaza. The police was involved and the child get a citation and need to appear in court?
THe child was never in trouble before and made mistakes this time. She is on honor roll student in high school. SHe is 16 yrs old.
What are the legal procedures for parent to do? I need detailed steps to take since this is my first time dealing with this.

Your daughter is going to have to appear in juvenile court on the date of the notice to appear. Since she's under 18, a parent or guardian will have to appear with her.
She is entitled to be represented by an attorney throughout these proceedings. You can either hire a lawyer of your choosing to represent her or she can just show up in court and request a public defender.
For a first offender, I am most often able to work out a resolution that does not result in a criminal conviction that ends up on your record.
