Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in California

The McMartin Trial

I was wondering why the McMartin Trial took as long as it did. We are studying trials in school, and had to pick a trial out of a hat and do research on it. I heard that it took almost 8 years before the case was finally dismissed. How come?

I do not have any inside information to offer. It just a long time to obtain testimony from all the children and the experts and supposed experts.
