Legal Question in Employment Law in California

95K to Minimum Wage w/no notice?

My bi-weekly salary was not direct deposited to my account today. When checking with payroll, they've decided to lower our salaries to minimum wage! Is this legal? What recourse do I have? Four weeks ago, I filed a workers comp case due to carpal tunnel syndrome. Can I sue them?

Thanks for your help.

There is not enough information to understand your circumstance, but generally speaking, employers cannot reduce salary retroactively. Nor can they do so in retaliation for filing a workers' comp claim. Technically, you can't sue them in court for this form of retaliation but it is a violation of Labor Code section 132a, which allows you to "sue" them before the workers compensation board.
