I hope this memo finds you well. I was at our HQ last week, as I was going to the acct department, I passed by and said hello to the Head of HR and one of my colleagues at a S. VP level.

After I said hello, the head of HR's reply was �gI know your dad'' which was followed by ''All of you look a like'', I am Asian. I and my colleague were shocked.

I have committed myself to the company for the last five years with strong results, I have been denied promotions, and my employment agreement has been revised by my employer after both parties signed the original agreement. I signed the revised agreement as my employer told me if I didn't sign we would not pay you, I have bills to pay.

Do you have any recommendations besides quitting my job?

I have a tendency to let things go but after a few discussions with professionals and friends, it is an unusual statement, my company is publicly listed. Now I know why I have been denied promotions.

I am sorry that this happened to you. Obviously, because the comment was made by someone at such a senior level, it seems that a further internal complaint is warranted, along with your concern about being passed over. Since the HR person was also a witness, you should look in your employee handbook and determine to whose attention you should bring discrimination and/or harassment concerns.

It doesn't seem that one comment should cause you to quit -- at least not before you have lined up other work. You should exhaust your internal remedies first. Good luck to you.
