Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Are atheists protected from discrimination?

To Whom It May Concern:

Are atheists protected from discrimination at work? Why or why not?

I was told that the Fair Employment and Housing Commission doesn't protect atheists because they are considered to have no religious belief, and need to find out if it is true or not. Is this a state issue or a federal issue?

Thanks for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.

Re: Are atheists protected from discrimination?

atheists are protected against religous discrimination. The information you recieved from the Fair Employment and Housing Commission is wrong. I would go back and speak to someone higher up and not as dumb as the first person you spoke to.
