Legal Question in Employment Law in California
My boss cut our pay 5% today. I am a salaried employee and was making $44,000 before the pay cut. I work at a theatre company that works with children. I will not be working any less or have less days that I'm required to work.
I have been suffering from depression and anxiety for the last 8 months due to my job. I am put in awkward positions and in my opinion unsafe circumstances. For example, after receiving a call from a parent telling us their child had a confirmed case of the N1H1 virus I was told by my supervisor to "keep it quiet." I was reprimanded for telling my teaching staff about the situation. I am currently being treated for the depression and anxiety by a therapist that I've been seeing for the last 6 months.
My question is if there is anyway to receive unemployment benefits or disability.

An employee is elligible to collect unemployment if he quits a job for good cause. Being told to keep quiet about a serious communicable disease, and then being reprimnaded for not keeping quiet, should be enough to constitute good cause. You should consult with an attorney in your area who specializes in employment law. Most attorneys will not charge you for the initial consultation, and most employment cases are handled on a contingency basis, without cost to you.
