boss denying last paycheck

hello, i have been at my current job for about 2 years and i have just quit.... i went the next day to pick up my check but my boss claims that by law i have to give him a resignation letter to recieve my check... is that true???

Your boss is wrong. Your boss needs to provide you with your last paycheck. I would follow the other advice that you have recieved.

Your former boss is wrong. If you quit with more than 72 hours notice, you are entitled to your last check on your last day. If you quit without notice, they have 72 hours to give you your last check. There is no requirement in that allows an employer can withhold a paychecking pending receipt of a resignation letter. If your former boss won't cooperate, file a complaint with the labor board for the unpaid wages.
