Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have a boss who is spreading rumors about me stating I have done something underhanded at my job. I have not done anything like this. I have also had problems with his language (using curse word) when he gets mad at something he feels differently about. Now by bad language I am talking really bad. I work in Californa and want to know if I have any legal recourse.

As for the bad language, you can contact his superior and complain if you've already confronted him about it. If it's a big company, you can contact HR. But, the cynic that I am, don't expect things to change for the long-term. In fact, things might get worse. Unfortunately, there are a lot of nasty people who try to be supervisors. They certainly don't endear themselves to their subordinates by using such tactics.

As for the rumors about your own conduct at work, again, it's best to have a conversation with him (with a witness), or talk to his supervisor who should call a meeting and have a dialogue with both of you.
