Legal Question in Employment Law in California

breach of verbal contract

The general manager of my company and I had a verbal agreement that he would provide me with a 3 month notice of any changes in my compensation or employment status. Just recently, I was laid off...without any notice. They are offering me 1 month compensation, not the 3 months we had agreed. Do I have a case? We are talking about $30k.

Re: breach of verbal contract

In California..it is "at-will" employment. So...they were not obligated to give you any notice under CA law. You don't have any written agreement either. Instead of showing it as a breach of Contract..if you can show that you were "wrongfully terminated"...you have a better chance. Feel free to call me...I need to know your employment history and facts surrounding the lay-off...before I can advise.
