"You break it, you buy it"
I alter and press bridal gowns, which cost the
customer $500 to $800, of all different types. One
type of gown is easily torn during pressing, but is
always repairable to the point where it becomes
unnoticable. Today my boss came up with a new "rule."
If the other presser or I damage a gown, she said that
we have to pay for the gown out of our own paycheck.
She believes that there are no accidents. She then
said that it was legal. Then she said "You break it,
you buy it." And again that it's legal. Is this
legal? If it is then I can't afford to work there. I
would have to work for free to pay for the more
