Legal Question in Employment Law in California

CA Labor Code 226(c), access to time card records?

Regarding CA Labor Code 226(c), I have made an ORAL request for a COPY of my time cards from my former employer. He has denied my request, and will only allow me to inspect them. Is he required to provide me with a copy of my record because it is what I specifically requested? Or does he allowing me to inspect the records (but not copy) fulfill his obligation of the labor code?

The employer must make the records available for inspection and copying, but need not do the copying for you. You can secure the services of a copy service to do the copying.

If you are attempting to get the records to confirm a known pay shortage, it may be more prudent to do the inspection and accounting, make the claim and secure the records later in the claim (or lawsuit).
