Legal Question in Employment Law in California

cameras in the work place

Are employers aloud to place cameras pointed at specifically at my work station? I've worked at this company for 6 yrs. Alot of theft has gone on & with the cameras they are hoping to detour the thieves. I have presented proff several times of who the thief is but nothing done about it. Anyway,I have a phobia of anyone watching me becuz several yrss back i had to testify & send a man to prison who raped & killed a girl. He was stocking me. He climbed in my bedroom window. Then after that followed me every where.I had to go to counseling to overcome open windows, although it didnt help!!3 other cameras that are being installed.

Re: cameras in the work place

Unfortunately, workplace privacy is pretty much a thing of the past. Employers can look into the computer at your desk, can subject you to search for theft (with certain limits), and can even monitor the workplace. If you are uncomfortable because of pre-existing issues, you might make that known to superiors if you wish to risk some skepticism and possibly more intense scrutiny. The alternative is, unfortunately, to begin to look for work elsewhere.
