Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am a US citizen in search of a position in Bangkok, Thailand. However, once I land a job out there in Thailand, do I have pay US tax? The reason is that I want to earn my social security credit in order to receive payment from the government once I retire. I don't mind paying the tax. Is there a law stating that I must pay US tax if I work in Thailand?
