Legal Question in Employment Law in California
My company is going through an aquisition and naturally not knowing if they were going to bring everyone over to the new company I beagn exploring avanues as a back up plan. My manager stated I it was a waste of time as I had signed a non comete clause [intimidating me in the process]...I was not offered a position with the new company and I'm frustrated becasue months have passed and I just was told by someone that I should not have been intimidated being that CA is state that does not recognize the non compete clasues...Furthermore, I received information from someone interally stating that the non compete should have been included in my initial contract period. Making it worse, the intimidation makes it all that more unacceptable...Please let me know if there is anything I should be discussing with an attorney. Thanks so much.

It is true, non-compete provisions are generally not enforceable in California. Now you know. You are free to work for whomever you wish. Not much you can do about the past.
