company refuses to pay commissions earned after quiting

I terminated my employment and im a commissioned sales person. I get paid 2 months after i sell a job. when i quit i received my commission report for the month previous. i am owed approx $20,000$30,000.00. when it came time to be paid the company said it wasnt paid yet so i cant get paid. I now hear that they are holding my checks until they seek legal council. its been 2 months and thay have a lot of my money, what can i do????????????????????????

You should file a complaint with the State Labor Commissioner in your area. In addition to unpaid commissions, you may have a claim for waiting time penalties.
