Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can a company require direct deposit with a specific bank?

Hi! I live in California and my boyfriend works for a bank. They will only do direct deposit if you bank with them, otherwise they will mail the employee their paycheck which they say can take up to 2 weeks. None of this sounds right to me but I couldn't find anything on the internet. Aren't they at least required to make the check available on payday so the employee can pick it up?

Thanks

Here is part of the CA labor code on the subject:

It's Labor Code Section 204: (copy and paste the link in your address bar, this system will not accept that long a message. . . )

As you can tell, the law is a bit complicated, and depends on the specific facts of your boyfriend's situation.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (federal law) may also require timely payment.
