Can a company stop using a contractor explicitly because he has a wife working for the company in an unrelated capacity?

Unless he has a contract for a specific time or a defined project that they cancelling in the middle, the answer is "yes," they can stop using him because his wife works for the company, or they can stop using the contractor because they don't like the color of his socks, or because his mother-in-law once shopped at Macy's. The point is they don't need a reason. So as long as it is not based on discrimination against him for race, gender or other "protected class," and it is not a breach of a contract in the middle of an agreed time period or project, they can stop using him for any reason or no reason at all.
