Legal Question in Employment Law in California
The company I work for chose to close its doors for the Friday following Thanksgiving. The employees had no say in this, and are forced to use sick time for this day if they have it. If they do not, they have a choice to use a vacation day or get docked for the day. Can my employer force me to use sick time when they closed the doors, and I was not sick? Can I choose to save my time and just take no pay for that day? I am an hourly employee. Thank you for your time.

Employers do not have to pay wages for time not worked. If they choose to close for a holiday and you wish to be paid for the day off, you may elect to use sick or vacation pay, if made available to you. If you do not wish to be paid for the day, tell them that. It is your choice.
