Legal Question in Employment Law in California

complicated

After working in a management position for over 12 years, in the food service industry, I submitted an application for job with the state of California.During the state application process, they called my employer for a reference as part of the background investigation. The next day he told me that he was going to have to replace me & gave me 45 days to find a job. During this time another job (federal)which I had applied for years ago became available. I then asked him if he would reconsider keeping me, he said no. I then gave my 2 week notice.Well there was a set goal to achieve in the first week of that training process which I failed to make. I was terminated. I am now filing for unemployment. Since I was only on my last job for 1 week, the unemployment office needs to go to my previous employer. Can he deny my unemployment benefits???

Re: complicated

Generally, unemployment benefits are available to those who are fired or laid off. If you quit, then you will not be given the benefits.

Re: complicated

You are entitled to unemployment benefits if you lost you last employment due to no fault of your own. The fact that you quit the job prior to your last job does not disqualify you from unemployment benefits. You should file as soon as possible.
