Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Conflict

I currently work for an interpreting & translation company. I have recently been approached by a free lance interpreter who does not work for our company to handle her billing as a part time/on the weekend job. My question is, would this be a conflict of interest even though she does not have anything to do with the current company I work for. I would not be scheduling for her, just doing her billing. If you need further clarification, please let me know.

Thank you,

Re: Conflict

Probably not. Question is whether your employer now, has agreement prohibiting such acts?

Re: Conflict

It depends whether your company has a conflict-of-interest policy, and what it says. I shouldn't think that doing billing for a freelancer should matter much, since you are not facilitating her getting jobs in competition with your own company. But some people get a little worried about appearances. So, re-read your company policy manual or memos regarding this issue and, if necessary, discuss it with your supervisor.
