Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am constantly turning down business dinners after hours to go home to my family. I have been informally counseled on many occasions that I am expected to go to these dinners, can they require that of me? There is a lot of alcohol involved normally and little business discussion occurs. Do I just need to find another job?

Good idea. Children suffer when Dad never comes home for dinner. Plus I assume you aren't getting paid for your time.
