Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Do changes to a contract nulify it?

My son in law signed a 2 year contract with a large HMO to assist in training employees in a new electronic medical records program. He was informed yesterday that the contract is changing from salaried to hourly. He was previously on a variable schedule for each 6 week deployment. Today he was told he was now permanently assigned 2:30PM to 10:30PM Wed through Sunday for the remainder of his contract (1yr).

Do these changes require a signature. My daughter is bringing the contract over tonight, what should we look for. If it says ''at will employee'' is that the end of it ?

Kids were just married and this really sucks....Much thanks for any help or guidance

My suspicion -- without the benefit of reading the contract -- is that his schedule was not set in stone. His employment, however, would be for two years, if that's what's in writing. If the hours are not to his liking, I'm sure he could negotiate some kind of severance agreement.
