Legal Question in Employment Law in California

i contracted with a company via 1099 last year. They still owe me 1,220 in back wages. They acknowledge this but havent paid (and probably wont). If I take this company to court, can i collect interest on these unpaid wages?

Not unless your contract calls for it. However, if you were an employee, misclassified as an independent contractor, you can obtain interest by filing a wage claim with the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, as well as waiting-time penalties.

In addition, you ask the right question: "can I collect"? That's the key. If they haven't paid you what you're owed by now, after you receive a judgment, you might want to retain an aggressive collection attorney to assist you.
