Legal Question in Employment Law in California

am i covered under FLMA if i am fired while helping my ailing father with his fa

i have recently been fired from my job. i am in the 4th week of an unpaid sabbatical to help my ailing father (he has heart problems which are documented in the past month) with his peach farm. He would be under a lot of mental stress and physical extertion if i weren't here to help, both of which are factors that can exacerbate his condition. i had a verbal agreement with my boss to take a 4 month break to help out at home. he said my job would be there waiting for me when i returned. Does the Family Leave Act cover me? Can i use this legal recourse as leverage to encourage an out of court settlement for 12 weeks paid severance? please help!

You may be covered and entitled to sue under FMLA. You can contact the DFEH office in your area or consult with an attorney.
