Legal Question in Employment Law in California

co-workers accessing emails/ history, etc.

Last week I conntected the dots (after months) and realized that co-workers (my boss's closest friends) were accessing my emails and history AFTER I would leave at night. None is my manager or boss. Lots of scorn and shunning have been apparant. Also, I am clean - haven't broken any rules. I told my boss - asked whether I should go to HR and she opted to handle it ''internally''. I asked to change my passwords - she agreed (I have her email ok'ing it). I think she knew about this. I know there is no expectation of privacy regarding one's boss, but how about co-workers? What are my rights? How do I proceed? I'm 50, and can't really go look for another job (and, I like the job; the people - her friends are creeps). Thanks.

You shouldn't be sending any personal e-mails from work. Most people do, but apparently this is causing problems so avoid doing so.

Your co-workers shouldn't be looking at your e-mail. This is a management issue that should be appropriately handled. You're correct about reduced expectations of privacy. But there could be projects you're working on that others shouldn't know about or perhaps take credit for your work. Management should be taking corrective measures.
