Legal Question in Employment Law in California

criminal record discrimination

Do employers have the right to refuse to hire you based on any criminal record (misdemeanors)? Once charges are expunged from your record; how can you protect yourself against discrimitation? What course of action can you take to prevent this from becoming part of your employee verification?
