Legal Question in Employment Law in California

When Day Care Provider Gives Notice that she is Moving

My child's day care provider gave me 3 weeks verbal notice that she is going to be moving to a different part of town. I signed a written agreement earlier in the year that I will give her 2 weeks notice if I decide to remove my child from her care. If she has given me notice 1st, do I legally still have to give her 2 weeks notice before I change providers?

Of course you don't legally have to give notice to her, but that's not to say you might not be in breach of the contract and subject to damages for breach. Intuitively, the damages ought to be limited to the cost of the two weeks of child care, which practically speaking may not be worth her time in pursuing you for. I'd be happy to take a look at the contract for a nominal fee and advise you further.
