Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Demotion Without a cause

I have been with this company for 5 years given 3 promotions. The company has told me that the have to lower my pay six dollars an hour for a short time until new accusitions take place could be six months or more.the company decides to leave my pay alone for the time.three months later the same thing. They want to cut my pay. one week after that i am given a promotion double the responsibilty but i get the same pay.Scince they were going to cut my pay last week and this week leave my pay alone i was happy to do the job.A week passes i am called into the office and i am told the six dollar pay cut and a demotion is in affect starting the following day. When asked why i was offerd the promotion in the first place they said it was better for the company and needed to be this way.
