Legal Question in Employment Law in California

difficulty acquiring employment

A couple of years ago my son took a pair of socks from a dept store. He gave them back before exiting the store. No charges were pressed but they reported the attempted theft with a reporting agency which is hindering him getting employment. Don't know how to get it removed so he can get a job. He's had no other legal problems.

It sounds like they reported this to a collection agency to attempt to collect a civil settlement which was never paid. You will have to satisfy the collection demand or make some type of compromise to do so. Then, they can issue a letter to your son which you can take to the credit bureaus and hopefully this will remove the negative items.
