Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Discrimination?

My wife was told by her employer yesterday evening that she was being passed over for a major promotion because he learned that we might be starting a family. He specifically stated that because she might become a mother he did not want to invest in her and promote her for this full time position.

She has already submitted her resignation and informed the corporate officers of this conversation. No one else was present during the conversation but she did confide in her colleague as to what her boss said immediately after the conversation and before leaving work.

Is this a form of sexual and/or employment discrimination and do we have a legal case? Are there grounds for a civil suit?

If you would be so kind, please respond via email address supplied below. Thank you.

Re: Discrimination?

Sounds like a Sex Discrimination. Depending on the employer there are going to be certain procedures or administrative remedies that you must follow first before you can sue or receive a right to sue letter. You should contact an Attorney ASAP.
