Legal Question in Employment Law in California

effects of 5150 on jobs/housing

Once you have been ''5150''...how does that effect your future job employment or other such areas? I guess i want to know about the consequences of a 5150...and also is there a way to have it reversed afetr proving you didn't need to be labeled with that.

Prospective employers cannot ask and you do not have to tell them about your medical history. It is confidential and not subject to consideration for a job. Once a job has been offered, you may be asked to submit to a drug test and/or a fitness for duty exam, depending on the nature of the job. But even there, it would be inappropriate to ask you about your mental health history. Certain jobs, such as in law enforcement, may be exempt from this rule of law.
