Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I have been employed at my current job for over a year now. recently, i asked my employer to see my w-4, as it was brought to my attention that a new employee was asked to simply provide his name, ssn, birth date, and what he is claiming in lieu of physically completing and signing the form. since making my request to see my w-4, my employer is saying that i never filled one out and he just told payroll what i was claiming. my question is: is it legal for an employer to have employees on payroll without the employees physically completing and signing the form? same goes with the I-9, i never filled that form out either. thank you for your help

Employers are required to have employees complete W-4 and I-9 forms. It is the law. You have the right to see you personnel file, so you know what is in it and to be given copies of any documents you signed relating to your employment.
