Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Hello,
I am an employee at Chipotle Mexican Grill in Roseville, California. Our air conditioning has been broken for a year now. As we are quickly approaching summer working conditions have worsened. With the temperature outside being 80 degrees and higher, the heat from the grill and no air circulation, this is an injury waiting to happen. Last year the parts to fix the air conditioning were ordered, but yet it was never fixed. I have talked to several managers about it and they give me all the same reply. “They won’t fix the AC because we would have to close the store for two days, which will lose them $30,000 in profits” But considering this is coming from a company who is supposed to “adhere to the highest ethical standards” as stated in their Integrity Statement, it seems like they should be worried about their employees safety more than money. I am wondering if this ignorance of our uncomfortable working conditions warrants any kind of action. I feel it is also valuable to mention that since the COVID -19 outbreak, our online orders have risen by 80%. All of these orders are made in the back of house where there is no air conditioning and 6-8 people working in a small area at one time !!
