Can an employee be forced to accept a different position that has different hour

Hi:

Can an employee be fired or be forced to take a position that has different hours then what was offer to her? We have a situation that an employee quit and her hours were from 9:30 to 6:00 and now the other 2 employees are being told that they have to trade off everyother week and do her position. Is this legal?

Thanks for your help!
