Employee job skills lost by employer actions
I work for a Fortune 5 Telecommunications Company as a technical consultant and have for nearly four years. My job is primarily technical consulting for our clients worldwide and requires that I be trained and certified in technical areas defined by our company. Approved Training is negotiated with our direct manager in accordance with the an approved career path. The problem is my career path has been changed numerous times by management and I have never been allowed to finish a particular track. I have also never been used in a capcity for that track that grants proficiency. In fact, the only skill used in my tenure has been project management. This caused me to lose skills I once had when I joined the company. Also, I have not gained any other skills to keep me marketable in my field. The problem is I make a rather large salary that I would never be able to duplicate elswhere in my field without substancial retraining at my cost. The company has layed-off over half of our employees in my division over the last six months and I no longer feel secure with my job. What are my options here?
