Legal Question in Employment Law in California
My employee is requesting unearned time off to attend a religious event (his religion requires that he attend) but he is a part time employee who does not accrue vacation time. Do I have to hold his job open for him?

Employers have a legal duty to reasonably accommodate employees' religious observations and beliefs, unless doing so would create an undue hardship to the company. If you terminate this employee because he needs time off to attend a religious event, you do so at your own risk.
