Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Employer went out of business, refuses to pay owed wages.

My employer went out of business with no notice. The company was operating as a branch of another business (which did not close) but was a separate corporation. The employer refuses to pay the last two weeks wages or accrued vacation. The failed company has many thousands of dollars worth of equipment that he moved to the parent company. He told us not to bother suing him because the company was a corporation so he cant be sued. Do I have any legal recourse

first file a complaint with the state labor commissioner then have an attorney review for a possible lawsuit. what your employer said is not the law.
