Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can an employer fire an employee for participating in a boycott?

As you know, these are troubled times for all undocumented workers in the United States. There have been numerous rallies held across the nation in support of illegal immigrants and to ask congress to stand down on the ''push'', on immigration reform. My qoestion is this, does an employer have the right to fire you for participating in these rallies???????

If the rallies are during work hours and you don't work but participate, then probably the answer is "yes." If the rallies are on your own time, the answer generally is "no." You have a right of political speech and freedom of association outside of work.
