Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can employer fire you 1 week after telling them you were sexual harrased?

I was fired from an Environmental Testing and Technology company 1 week after telling the owner I was being sexual harassed. I had worked for the company for almost 4 months.

So, I did just that (via email Cc’ing the owner). I then got a letter stating that they spoke with the 2 males and that they had been warned and asked to stop what they were doing. That was it.

A week after – to the day – I was “let go” from the company. They told me it was because I was no longer needed and because of “At will employment” they could do this.

I was their Office Manager who had a ton of responsibilities, plus, they hired someone 1 week later, who happened to be a former MALE employee to take over the position they fired me from.

What can I do? No pre-warning at all – just fired.

Do I have a case? Would an attorney take this case on pro-bono? Are their still attorney that do that type of work. I am a single mom – currently finally working again. This happened in Feb 2007 – I finally got another job in August 2007.

This sounds like Employer retaliation, which is illegal. You should consult an attorney ASAP.
