Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Employer is mad @ my boyfriend

My man was hired to do a remodel for my boss at the end of the job they had an argument regarding how long it was taking. Having worked 12 already that day, she said that if he left he was fired. The next morning his tools were out on the street & they told me to stay home for the day. I worked the following day, then was told that not only were they ''not paying him another dime'' even though he was 90% done, but that I should go home and decide wether or not I still wanted a job. They pay everyone under the table. Is it fair for them not to pay him? Can they fire me? What about making my life miserable and forcing me to quit?
