Employer asking for a medical certification from each health care provider.

Can an employer ask for a certification from each health care provider? As an example, employee gets a certification, for a heart condition, from their regular MD. Can an employer ask for a cerification from the employee's Cartiologist as well? As another example, an employee gets a medical certification form a psychologist, can the employer also ask for one from the therapist as well??
