Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My former employer had various practices which I find unethical. Not sure if they are illegal. For example, changing employees time clocks so we wouldn't get overtime (doing us a 'favor' because we'd get written up if we worked OT), making employees pay cash register shortages out of their pockets, and my termination, which came as a result of being written up for a 'no call/no show' when I informed them that I would be late to work and they told me to take the day off. I think I need some legal help. Also, I have been paid for my last day of work or received a final paycheck stub for the handwritten check they did write me.

It is unlawful for emloyers to fail to pay overtime if the overtime was worked (though it is permissible to discpline employees for unauthorized overtime). Employees also cannot be made to pay shortages from their own pockets.

You may wish to consult with an employee-side labor attorney to determine your rights, and what can be done.
