Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Employer threat-to-with-hold-pay memos.
Dear Lawguru:
I work for a Los Angeles Security company. The company owner enjoys playing hardass and has a frequent inclination to enclose memos with mailed checks about issues of concern to him, such as how guards answer the phone while on their posts, that generally end with a directive compelling the employee to sign, date and return an acknowledgement sheet of having received the note and agreeing to comply with instructions on threat of denial of receiving next pay check. The exact wording is: "This Memo shall be returned to the office of (Company name) prior to receiving the next paycheck." Is such a threat of denial of pay allowed by law?

He cannot withhold paychecks, no way. But, he can fire anyone who doesnt return the signed notes.
