Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Can employer withhold bonus with no explanation
My employment offer letter stated that I would be give a quarterly bonus to be paid on the 15th of each month proceed the end of the quarter. On March 15th, I should have been given the promised bonus. I inquired about the status several time. My supervisor continued putting off the discussion. On May 23rd I was termianted without notice or prior discipline. I was given my final paycheck with no mention of the bonus. During a phone conversation with my previoius employer, I was told that the bonus would not be given.
Is an employer able to withhold giving compensation without providing the basis by which it was withheld?

A bonus plan is governed by the agreement the employer has created - more information is needed to determine the terms of the plan and whether you have a claim.
