Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Employment Agreement

Is it lawful for an employer to request its employee in signing a policy stating that the employee is not allowed to engage (except the employment with the employer) in any other type of profit seeking activities except when the employee is only investing. There's also a clause stating that the employee agree to devote his/her full time to the employment. Thank you.
