Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Employment Termination

On my termination paper employer marked ''Discharged'' with no explanation. I was given a brief explanation of company financial condition. Also was told by CEO to go ahead and collect unemployment until i found a job which he also will give me a good job recommendation. My unemployment was denied because he now said i was AWOL. Can he change his reason suddenly like that?

Re: Employment Termination

He could say anything he wants. Appeal the decision and bring evidence that you were terminated because of cutbacks. They'll have to bring time cards to show that you were "AWOL."
