Enforcement of labor stds. for Imperial Valley

I sent all doc. to Depatment of Industrial Relations over pay that is owed to me by my previous employer. I received it all back with an explanation of ''We do not have jurisdiction over the city of....'' Well they could of at least told me who does. The I.V. does not have an office that is open. What can I do? This came from S.D. 120 miles away. Thanks for the web site.

The headquarters for the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement is located in San Francisco and the phone number is (415) 703-4810. I suggest you call them to see what office WOULD have jurisdiction over your claim.

You also have the option of suing your employer for the back wages in civil court. If the amount is less than $5,000, you can file the lawsuit in small claims without an attorney.
