Is escorting illegal in the state of california and what are the legal requirements of being an escort?

Escorting is legal. There are no requirements I know of other than basic business requirements. It is not a regulated profession to my knowledge. Bear in mind, of course, that many customers of "escorts" expect more, and that is very illegal.
