Legal Question in Employment Law in California

extra curricular activities?

I work for a non profit organization. It is an religious television network. I have worked here for two months now. The owner/pastor recently sent a departmental memo stating that in order to work here we must attend his church and several other religious functions during the week after work hours. Is this legal? Can we be discharged if we decline to comply with this mandate?
